BSI achieves Aerospace AS9110 accreditation

Press release: 13 November 2006

BSI Group has been accredited to deliver AS9110 certification worldwide.

BSI Group has strengthened its position in the aerospace certification market by being among the first certification bodies in the Americas sector of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) to be accredited to deliver certification against AS9110. BSI’s accreditation has been granted by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board LLC (ANAB). This means that BSI can now audit to the full suite of accredited aerospace standards – AS9100, AS9003, AS9110 and AS9120.

The aerospace industry realised that the needs of the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) segments were different than any other segment. To address this need the AS9110 standard was published by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Division. AS9110 Quality Management Systems - Aerospace - Requirements for Maintenance Organisation’s is based on AS9100 and adds specific requirements that are critical for the maintenance of aerospace vehicles including commercial, private, and military.

Who is AS9110 relevant to?

AS9110 is for companies that maintain and repair aerospace vehicles for the commercial or military sectors or those that manufacture aircraft parts under Federal Aviation Administration - Parts Manufacturer Approval (FAA PMA) regulations. FAA 145 certified repair stations are prime candidates to seek certification under AS9110.

By being audited and certified by BSI against the requirements of AS9110, organisations can demonstrate that they have the management and control systems in place to deliver quality products and services that meet the requirements of all stakeholders. It will also provide access to the best practices of the aerospace industry.

With its unique pedigree in global management systems assessments, and a recognised worldwide reputation, BSI is able to bring a high level of technical capability and auditor delivery to the implementation and continual improvement of a management system that addresses this standard.

Said Reg Blake, VP Corporate Development and Regulatory Affairs: “BSI has been a very active and a strong supporter of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) and the Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG) who are the champions of the AS9100 family of standards. We are extremely proud of our overall contribution to the AS family of standards and achievement of our AS9110 accreditation. We look forward to many more years of contributing to aerospace safety and continued support of IAQG, AAQG, and our existing and future clients.”
